Has the media shaped our vision of women through photographic portrayal and is their true purpose and identity betrayed as a result?

Initial Ideas

initial ideas focusing on identity, women representation involving political and social views.

Eventually I came to the conclusion of exploring idenitity. I then made a quick brainstorm, developing different types of ideas for each shoot, specifically focused on feminity and mothering, which I then developed my ideas on after exploring different artist's and photographers.

I chose both pages of images as inspiration as I feel they all represent a sense of unity, with a particular focus on feminity, which is something I knew I wanted to explore within the unit. However as I explored further, I began to find photographers such as Alma Haser, whose work strongly suggests family and togetherness. This then gave me the idea of exploring how females are representented in the media, but also how they are not, for example mothering, which is a woman's main purpose in this world, although it is not always portrayed that way. By exploring this theme i feel it gives more to the thought process behind my work, rather than just what meets the eye. Very similarly to the common depiction of females in the media.
